NYNightlife: "leave the DJ accountable for the crowd's fun"

nynightlife:

So what is my point? Simply put, clubs should only hire DJs who fit within their musical parameters, so there are no unpleasant surprises coming from the sound system. After booking a DJ, let the DJ decide what will be played, while the management takes care of the needs of guests which do not interfere with entire crowd’s night (remember the limes and blondes?). Rather than micromanaging, leave the DJ accountable for the crowd’s fun.

Well said.

Watch this: Annie Mac’s ‘Superstar DJs’ with Tiesto

Annie Mac gets unprecedented access on tour with Tiesto, following him from Vegas to San Francisco to Ibiza — with a quick stop in Breda and Hardwell’s home studio along the way.

Check out this video for a sense of how low key and genuinely happy Tiesto is as a person. You’ll only get a little bit jealous.

The video for Otto Knows’ summer smash “Million Voices” is here.

I’m not sure I get it… And I kept waiting for the OneRepublic “Apologize” lyric.

We will eventually render the songs available to anyone regardless of territory, format or platform but we’re also trying to make a point and take a stance - streaming is the future.

Ash Pournouri gives us some insight on the decision to make Cazzette’s first album, Eject, available exclusively through Spotify.

I’m not sure I agree that Spotify is the future, or that “streaming” as we know it is the future, but it is an interesting move.

I’d be curious to know the metrics of how successful this little experiment is.

Afrojack’s set from Pacha NYC’s Help Heal NY event is available for streaming. In the words of the man himself:

“As this is a special occasion, I’m going to try and play as much new shit as possible.”

Here’s six minutes of a hot girl partying in Vegas, which is somehow supposed to be connected to Tiesto’s headphone line.

UNITY: The first digital music festival is taking place on Mixify right now

Mixify is hosting the UNITY digital music festival on its platform for three days, bringing live DJ sets online and giving fans a new way to interact with performers. Acts such as Ken Loi, 3Lau, Adrian Lux, and DJs from Mars will all be participating in the event, which brings music and technology together in ways they never have before.

The platform is similar to Turntable.fm on steroids, except that there’s only one DJ per room and that DJ can actually stream live from their real-life equipment through hooks into the platform. Impressive visuals play on loop behind the booth, giving the entire event a more entertaining, sophisticated feel that isn’t wholly unlike most festival main stages these days.

DJs from Mars will be streaming at 4PM EST today, but the event continues through tomorrow.

Help Heal New York: Pacha NYC streaming benefit show tonight

Pacha NYC has a ton of DJs on board for tonight’s Help Heal New York event which will benefit Hurricane Sandy and the New York Red Cross. The party will run from 5PM to 5AM and boasts DJs like Afrojack, Danny Tenaglia, Shermanology, SJ+RM, David Waxman, Carl Kennedy, and many more.

Not sure of set times for the stream, but I am told it will start at 11PM and be from the main floor of Pacha.

The Light is a new nightclub opening at the Mandalay Bay Las Vegas in March 2013, and marks Cirque Du Soleil’s first foray into the proper nightclub scene. Other big names on board include The Light Group founder Andrew Sasson and Amy Thomson (manager of Swedish House Mafia), who will work on the development, music, and marketing of LIGHT.

I have a feeling that club wars in Las Vegas are just heating up.

Have you seen The Light?

Jacob Schulman, The Blog: Pulselocker: a streaming music service especially for DJs

jacobschulman:

Dieter Bohn at The Verge takes a first look at Pulselocker, a new streaming service built with DJs in mind.

“Spotify and others were going after a very mainstream approach,” Pulselocker CTO and co-founder Ryan Walsh told us, but the critical problem with those streaming services is simple:…

Worth signing up for the BETA.
